Gold hunting cased keyless lever watch
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold full hunter pocket watch made by Jaime Trilla in Geneva, circa 1890. It has a high quality mechanical crown winding movement with a lever escapement and 10 jewels, signed Jaime Trilla. The white enamel dial features black Roman numerals for the hours, a fine outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock (hand missing), and sleek blued steel spade hands.
–
The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat yellow gold full hunter case. The front and reverse outer covers are masterfully embellished with detailed, allover hand engraved vertical patterned rows alternating with delicate foliate designs, surrounding a central vacant shield cartouche on the back. The inner 18 carat gold dust cover (cuvette) is polished and intricately engraved with the designation Remontoir, a description of the mechanical escapement layout, 10 Rubis, and the signature J. Trilla, Genève. The case is completed by a fluted winding crown and a sturdy suspension bow.

Jaime Trilla was a well regarded Swiss horologist active in Geneva during the late 19th century. He specialized in luxury pocket watches for the international market, particularly affluent Spanish and Latin American clients. Operating during an era of significant technical transition, Trilla’s workshop used remontoir (crownwinding) systems that eliminated the need for a traditional winding key. His timepieces combined durable, high quality Swiss lever movements with elaborately hand engraved, heavy solid gold cases showcasing the finest traditions of Genevan decorative metalwork. Today, surviving pocket watches signed by Jaime Trilla remain scarce and are appreciated by collectors for their historical representation of late Victorian Swiss export craftsmanship.
