These watches are very rare because they came from a collaboration between Assmann and Ditrich Gruen which began in 1894 when they partnered with Dietrich’s son, Frederick Gruen, to form the company Grünsche Uhrenfabrikation Grün und Assmann in Glashütte, Germany. The partnership, which ended in 1897, focused on manufacturing Gruen’s watch movements at Assmann’s factory, which was highly regarded and had clients like A. Lange & Söhne. The collaboration was essential for the early development of Gruen watches, providing the manufacturing foundation for their movements before the company later shifted to Swiss production.
