Gold and enamel full hunter cased watch by Henry Louis Matile
–
A very fine and remarkable Swiss 18 Carat gold and enamel hunting cased verge pocket watch, circa 1840. This delicate pocket watch is striking with its marvellous enamel colours that have lost none of their brilliance in almost two centuries. The case front shows a scene with two ladies and a small boy playing under rose bushes in a park, the back with an alpine landscape scene nearby Grenoble depicting an angler at a mountain stream with a bridge and farm buildings before Monte Aiguille in the background, both enamel medallions are framed by translucent cobalt blue borders with engraved floral gold ornaments. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer minute divisions, sunk subsidiary dial for the Arabic seconds and solid pink gold arrow shaped hands. Bridge movement, key wind, gold ring balance, and regulation with bi metallic temperature compensation slat.
