Gold open faced lever pocket watch

An exquisitely decorated Swiss 18 carat gold open faced repoussé pocket watch, probably made for an exhibition, by Longines Watch Co, circa 1909. The signed rhodium plated bridge movement features Geneva striping decoration, 17 jewels, three adjustments, a lever escapement, chatoned center wheel, screw compensation balance and an index spring fine adjusting device. The case back with a fine chased high relief scene showing Chronos surrounded by three females amidst flowers, a cornucopia, palm leaves and military equipment. Five zodiac figures along the upper edge: Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces and Aquarius. The pendant is decorated with a pair of sphinxes. The front bezel has 12 zodiac figures corresponding to the hours and a large lateral hinge. The signed two tone gilt dial with bold Roman hours, an outer minute track, engine turned center, auxiliary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued Breguet hands.
