Remarkable gold hunting cased pocket watch by Girard-Perregaux
–
A decorative, remarkable Swiss hunting-cased precision pocket watch circa 1871. This beautiful watch has an 18K gold engine-turned case. It is signed Cronometro and Exposition Universelle, Paris 1867, and Girard Perregaux, Chaux de Fonds. The case has apertures for two integrated hinged mechanisms for bow setting and winding and bears a case maker’s punch mark PMAF. The inner lid is lavishly engine-turned. The dial is signed, chased, silvered, and has applied gold floral ornaments. It features Roman hours, a subsidiary dial for the seconds at 6 o’clock, and blued Fleur-de-Lys hands. The movement is rhodium-plated with stripe decoration. It has a free-sprung blued spherical balance spring, a chronometer balance with four screws and two elliptical-shaped gold weights, a counterpoised lever, a chatoned diamond endstone on balance, and a lever escapement and escape wheel.
