Gold, enamel and diamond set form watch

A French 18 carat gold and enamel, diamond set pendant form watch designed as a scarab, circa 1870. Accompanied by a fitted presentation box and original key. Case in the shape of a scarab, the reverse realistically chased and engraved with legs and abdomen, spring loaded wing covers, hinged and entirely decorated in translucent red enamel over engine turning with black spots, opening from a button in the base to reveal the dial, the main body with black enamel stripes and the thorax with a diamond set collar. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands. An oval, gilt brass movement with a bar calibre, going barrel, eight jewels, a cylinder escapement, plain three arm balance and flat balance spring with a regulator.
