Gold watch with the portrait of Madame Pompadour

An unusual Swiss 18K yellow gold, diamond and enamel pair-cased keyless pendant watch, circa 1895. Sold on December 11th, 1895. Accompanied by Extract from the Archives. Outer case: the bezel with flower and leaves decoration, the case back with amour et pomme in chased work decoration. Inner case: the bezel with green enamel and gold leaf decoration, the case back with green enamel, and gold leaf decoration, the painted portrait of Madame Pompadour set with rose cut diamonds, transparent inside case back, and unusual pendant design. Guilloche green enamel dial with painted gold Arabic numerals, outer gold painted minute division and pink gold Louis XV hands.  Nickel movement, 19 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator with graduations engraved on the centre bridge, wolf’s tooth winding wheels.
