Gold, enamel and pearl-set pocket watch

A very fine Swiss 18K gold, painted-on enamel and pearl-set hunting cased watch, circa 1845. Made for the Islamic market. A foliate chased band, the front cover decorated with a pearl-set flower on a royal blue translucent enamel ground, engraved gold border with light blue champlevé enamel surround, the back cover with a finely painted enamel bouquet of flowers including tulips, roses and a peony on a royal blue translucent enamel ground, engraved gold, light blue and pearl-set border and a hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Islamic hour numerals, outer minute track and blued steel Breguet hands. A frosted gilt bar calibre movement, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with flat balance spring. Cuvette signed.

The enamel and pearl decoration of the present watch is particularly well executed and in original unrestored condition. It is Geneva during the first half of the 19th century for export to the East. Siegrist & Cie is a very good example of beautiful enamelled and jewelled watches decorated with naturalistic subjects.
