An 18k gold case, engine-turned, reeded band, engine-turned, numbered and signed gold dome, enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, blued Breguet hands, half-plate movement, patented movement construction, keywind, nickel-plated, decorated, signed, screwed gold chatons, “Patented Sept. 1859”, five jewels, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.

Charles Edouard Jacot des Combes (1817-1897) 
He had a reputation as a specialist in the field of escapements; the renowned innovator worked in Switzerland after having worked and researched in his uncle’s factory in the United States for 20 years. His most influential and most commonly used patent was the “Jacot duplex escapement” (also known as the Chinese duplex escapement).
