A rare Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased lever pocket watch with perpetual calendar and retrograde date, circa 1890. Glazed bridge movement, a club tooth lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, sunk auxiliary seconds at 8 o’clock, a sunk subsidiary dial for the months at 4, a retrograde date display in the upper half, an oval aperture for the days of the week underneath and fleur-de-lys hands. The case is engine turned, an engraved monogram with black enamel inlay on the front, polished bezels, a reeded band. Case numbered.

Eugène LeCoultre was active in the second half of the 19th century and produced very fine and extremely complicated watches, some with perpetual calendars. In 1880, the company was awarded first prize in the chronometer test at the Geneva Observatory.
