Gilt metal and enamel verge form watch

A large Austrian gilt metal and enamel keyless mandolin form watch, circa 1870. The polychrome enamelled panels on both sides of the case, made by a Viennese workshop, represent bucolic scenes in the manner of Watteau, Boucher or Fragonard, painters of the fêtes galantes, on the inside of the case, polychrome enamel representations of flowers. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, an outer minute track, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and yellow gold spade hands. Gilded brass movement with a verge escapement, fusee and chain, a polished steel monometallic balance and blued steel flat hairspring.
