A fine Swiss, 18K gold, double-train independent dead-seconds pocket watch, circa 1840. Saint Peter’s Basilica by Courvoisier & Comp, La Chaux-de-Fonds. Made for the Italian market. The case with coin-edge band chased and engraved bezels, the back engraved with a view of St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican in Rome, gold hinged cuvette. White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute/dead-seconds divisions. Gold Breguet hands. A frosted gilt movement, double train, 24 jewels, bridge calibre, lateral counterpoised lever escapement, three-arm gilt balance with flat balance spring and pare-chute on the top pivot, temperature compensation curb, index regulator. Cuvette signed.
