According to family documents, the present watch was most probably offered in 1921 by Lucie Marie Elise Benassy, Louis Benassy’s sister, as an engagement gift for her future husband, Victor Gaulthier, whose initials correspond to the ones ‘VG’ on the case back .

Following the death of Antoine Norbert Patek in 1877, son-in-law of Adrien Philippe, the Frenchman Joseph Antoine Benassy, took over as the commercial director of the company in 1878. Léon Benassy, grand son of Joseph Antoine Benassy, was the last family member active as a watchmaker in the Patek Philippe company from 1919 to 1921.
