A remarkable, very fine and heavy Swiss 18K multi-coloured gold hunting cased quarter repeating chronograph astronomical pocket watch with dual time, calendar, chronograph, retrograde date, moon age and moon phase made for the Spanish market, circa 1890. Glazed nickel-plated bridge movement, Geneva striping decoration, 37 jewels, finely ground and bevelled steel chronograph parts, ratchet wheel, two hammers, two gongs, a gold train, wolf teeth winding wheels, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.

 

An à goutte case à quatre couleurs lavishly chased and engraved with elaborate foliage, the covers with four-colour high-relief decoration of iris flowers and a cartouche, a slide for repeating mechanism. An engine-turned gold dome, case maker’s punch mark LG. White enamel dial, an inner track with radial Roman hours, minute divisions, an outer track with Arabic dual time hours, sunk auxiliary seconds at 6 o’clock, a subsidiary dial on the left with the days of the week and the months of the year to the right, an aperture with a cobalt blue enamelled gold moon phase disc depicting a golden moon and stars, retrograde date and ages of the moon at 12 o’clock, spade hands. Dial signed, case, cuvette and movement signed and numbered,.
