A rare American 18 carat gold open faced five minute repeating keyless pocket watch with split seconds chronograph made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, circa 1885. The polished, plain case with a monogram on the back and dedication engraving on the inside cover. Black enamel dial with white Arabic hours, an outer minute track, fifth of a second divisions, outermost Arabic five minute numerals, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and steel spade hands. Nickel ½ plate movement, 34 jewels, a calibrated straight line lever escapement and cut bimetallic compensation balance with a Breguet balance spring, repeating on gongs through activating the slide in the band. Dial, case and movement are signed.
