Gold and multicolour enamel form watch

A French 18 carat gold and enamel mandolin shaped watch of outstanding quality, the Neapolitan Mandolin, made by Jean-Antoine Lépine in Paris, 1830. The multicolour enamelled mandolin form case is decorated with the finest gold inlays, an overall very detailed representation of the instrument, and the top of the mandolin is hinged. The concealed white enamel dial features Arabic hours, outer minute divisions with quarter hour numerals and five minute markers, and gold Breguet hands. The signed movement with a verge escapement.

An identical example of this watch was part of the famous Sandberg Collection. It is shown on pages 446 and 447 in the book “The Sandberg Collection”. Only the reverse was slightly differently coloured; otherwise, it is absolutely identical.
