A Swiss, key winding, gentleman’s pocket watch for the North American market with original box, circa 1875.
An 18 Carat gold engine-turned case with a reeded band, and an engine-turned, numbered and signed gold dome. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, and blued Breguet hands. Keywind, nickel-plated, decorated, signed half-plate movement with patented movement construction, screwed gold chatons, “Patented Sept. 1859, five jewels, gold screw compensation balance, and counterpoised lever.

Charles Edouard Jacot des Combes (1817-1897) 
He had a reputation as a specialist in the field of escapements; the renowned innovator worked in Switzerland after having worked and researched in his uncle’s factory in the United States for 20 years. His most influential and most commonly used patent was the “Jacot duplex escapement” (also known as the Chinese duplex escapement).
