A Swiss 18 carat pink gold and enamel keyless open faced pendant watch, made by Vacheron Constantin in Geneva, circa 1901. Specially made for the Federal Shooting Contest 1901 in Lucerne, model: Montre de Tir. Light blue translucent enamel over engine turned case back. On the lower side, the coat of arms of the City of Lucerne, and inside a frame on the upper side, a view of the Musegg wall and its nine towers with Lake Luzern in the background. On the upper left side, the flag of the Helvetic Confederation.

The painting on enamel on gold attributable to Lacreuze or Ronet, Geneva. The cuvette is engraved with the mention: Eidgenössisches/Schützen Fest/1901/in Luzern (Federal Shooting Contest 1901 in Lucerne). A cream enamel dial with light blue colour suspended Breguet numerals, outer minute track and gold hands. A gilded brass movement, going barrel, straight line lever escapement, compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel flat hairspring, polished steel index regulator. Signature on the dial, case and movement.

Vacheron Constantin and the Federal Shooting Contest 1901 in Lucerne:
In 1901, for the Federal Shooting Contest, who take place in Luzern/Lucerne, Vacheron Constantin produced a few series of pendant watches for the Committee of Organisation, as a gift for the winners of the competitions.

A few pendant watches were especially made with, on the case back, an enamel painting on gold showing a view of the Musegg wall and its nine towers with Lake Luzern in the background, the coat of arms of this City and the flag of the Helvetic Confederation, enamels by Lacreuze or by Ronet.
