Grande and Petite Sonnerie
On the quarter-hour it strikes the number of hours on a large bell and then the number of quarter hours since the hour on a second bell (usually with a double strike) – except on the full hour, when it does not strike the quarter hours. The Petite Sonnerie only strikes the quarter hours, maybe with a double strike on two bells; as with the Grande Sonnerie, it only strikes the hours on the full hour but not the quarter hours.
