Gold astronomical hunting cased watch

A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased astronomical pocket watch made by Louis Brandt & Frère SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1890. This timepiece features eight complications: a perpetual calendar, minute repeater, moon phases, a lunar calendar, chronograph and an instantaneous central minute register. Matte silver dial with applied faceted yellow gold baton hour indexes, an outer minute track with fifth of a second division and Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary dials for days of the week, the date, months and four year cycle, constant seconds with a concentric lunar calendar and an aperture for the moon phases, and yellow gold sword hands. Plain case with a hinged gold cuvette.

A rhodium plated movement with Geneva striping decoration, 36 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring and swan neck micrometre regulator, the repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Case punched with maker’s mark LBF for Louis Brandt & Frère.
