Museum quality watch with four automata
–
A museum quality large verge watch with musical movement and four automata, probably made in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1820. The engine turned open faced case was crafted from silver and is engraved with the maker’s mark CB & Cie, possibly referring to Charles Bouhon who was active in la Chaux-de-Fonds. The face with a decentral gold dial with Arabic numerals for the hours and gold hands, has a beautiful figural scene with four automata and  fantastic enamel work on the background. The extremely unusual musical movement with a verge escapement and four automata that are released via a lateral slide on the band.

The watch is a rarity in every respect. The movement is highly unusual, as is the automaton with four figures. The extremely rare movement was completely very extensively restored/revised over a period of almost twelve months in 2021.
–
The maker’s mark CB & Cie may refer to Charles Bouhon who was possibly active as a “Maitre d’Horlogerie” in la Chaux-de-Fonds around the 1820’s.
