Gold keyless pocket watch with split seconds chronograph
–
A fine 18 carat yellow gold and enamel keyless pocket watch with split second chronograph. Made in Switzerland for Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co., Philadelphia, USA, circa 1890. This watch features a rhodium plated jewelled movement with a lever escapement. It has a white enamel dial adorned with Breguet style numerals and an outer track for minutes and seconds, marked with Arabic numerals at five minute/second intervals. There are subsidiary dials for seconds and a 30 minute counter, complemented by blued steel hands. The case is crafted from 18 carat yellow gold, with the back monogrammed RJA and a hinged case back. The cuvette is personally inscribed: In appreciation of faithful attention to Elsie From Samuel L. Feiber. The case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The case is in good overall condition, showing surface wear and scuffing consistent with its age. The dial has hairlines throughout the left side, with some areas of discolouration. There are scratches, surface marks, and dust present. The split-second chronograph is operational but exhibits some inconsistency. The movement displays light patina and wear, but it is running.
