Precision pocket watch with gold case and dedication

A precision pocket watch with gold case in original seller’s box, made for the Swedish market by Longines in Saint Imier, Switzerland, circa 1915.
This watch features a 14 carat gold case with a cuvette that is marked “Minne på 50-årsdagen” (Swedish for “In memory of the 50th birthday”). The enamel dial features an outer minute and hour track with red Arabic hour numerals for 13 to 24 o’clock, black Arabic numerals for 1 to 12 o’clock, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold Breguet hands. The numbered movement is equipped with a precision lever escapement and a special fine adjustment.
The movement and case bear matching numbers and the box, movement and dial are signed.

The 24 hour track was highly popular for civil and railway timekeeping in Europe.

The Swedish dedication text (“Minne på 50-årsdagen”) was commissioned locally by the buyer. After purchasing the completed Swiss watch from a Swedish jeweler, it was taken to a local engraver to personalize it as a milestone 50th birthday gift
