Gold watch with Bagnolet calibre

A Swiss fine, extra slim 18K gold and painted on enamel pocket watch with Bagnolet calibre, circa 1840. Gilt brass, foliate engraved, Bagnolet calibre, 8 jewels, standing barrel, the wheel train sunk into the single plate, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator, female winding hole.
Case, profusely chased and engraved with foliage and geometric patterns, decorated with painted on enamel roses, tulips and other flowers within white, dark blue and red enamel decorated borders, stem and bow decorated to match.
Eccentric, white enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions. Blued steel Breguet hands.

Bagnolet Caliber The movement is inverted in the Bagnolet caliber, the escapement and the wheel train are concealed between the dial plate and the single plate. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with the invention of the bagnolet caliber.
