A Swiss rare, thin gold enamel gentleman’s pocket watch, circa 1840.
Gold enamel case with florally engraved edges, the back cover with a polychrome enamelled crest of the Irish McMahon family and motto: “SIC NOS SIC SACRA TUEM” (“Thus We Defend Our Sacred Rights”) and signed gold dome. Enamel dial with Roman numerals and blued hands. Bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, with cylinder escapement and three-arm brass balance.

McMahon
Family The name itself is said to come from the Irish word for ‘bear’. Two great families of the MacMahon name found in Ireland. The first are the MacMahons of Thomand (Clare). The second are the MacMahons of the old territory of Oriel in the 13th centur.
