Silver open faced keyless quarter repeating automata watch
–
A fine Swiss silver open faced quarter repeating pocket watch with automata jacquemarts, circa 1820. This watch has a mechanical crown winding movement with a lever escapement, a frosted, gilded bridge style layout with an intricately pierced, chased, and scrollwork decorated balance cock, and an on demand quarter repeating strike mechanism. The ornate multi tone silver dial features an engine turned centre with a silver ring showing black Roman numerals for the hours. It is flanked by two animated silver and rose gilded jacquemart figures in traditional attire holding hammers to strike two bells positioned at 12 o’clock, with a recumbent lion relief motif at the lower section, and blued steel hands.
–
The timepiece is housed in a round three body, solid silver open faced case with a plain, polished reverse back cover, a fluted winding crown, a sturdy round suspension bow, and a solid silver inner protective cuvette.
