A very fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold and enamel split second chronograph pocket watch made by Patek Philippe in Geneva, circa 1894. The manual wind jewelled nickel lever movement with a cut bimetallic balance and column wheel split second mechanism. White enamel dial with black Breguet hours, an outer minute track with fifth of a second divisions and red Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and fine hands. The plain case with a large red and blue enamelled monogram on the back, a hinged gold cuvette with an engraved personalized inscription and a sliding lock at 11 o’clock. Dial, case and movement signed.

The present watch is an early example of the split seconds chronograph, which would later patent this movement in 1902.
