Gold keyless hunting cased watch

A very fine and rare Swiss 18K gold hunting cased, keyless pocket watch by Charles E. Jacot, Chaux de Fonds made for the American market, circa 1875. Helical balance spring and Charles Jacot’s patent winding and hand-setting mechanism. The front cover with central small engraved initial, engine turned, reeded edges, knurled band. Hinged gold cuvette, the inside with engraved dedication.

White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track divided into fourths, Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gilt and blued steel Morning glory hands. Patented half-plate caliber movement, 19 jewels, some in screwed gold chatons, straight line calibrated and counterpoised lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold adjustment screws, blued steel helical balance spring, index regulator, patented Jacot winding-setting system. Dial, case and movement signed.

On January 19, 1869 Charles Jacot patented a winding/setting system based on his movement caliber. This proved to be an excellent movement, which Jacot produced for a number of years in different sizes.
