Gold pocket watch by Frédérick Courvoisier
–
A very fine gold Swiss beautifully engraved pocket watch circa 1840-50. This vintage pocket watch has a gilt movement and a lever escapement. The watch has a gold case that has been beautifully chased and engraved. The dial is made of enamel and features radial Roman numerals. The watch was made by Frederick Courvoisier, a prominent watchmaker who lived between 1790 and 1854. The inner case bears the signature of the watchmaker, Fredr Courvoisier. Additionally, there is a marking on the watch that consists of three chevrons within a shield. This marking is a Swiss control mark that was used between 1820 and 1866 to indicate that the watch met certain quality standards.
