Gold open faced key winding watch
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch, circa 1850. It has a mechanical key winding movement with a cylinder escapement, wound through apertures in the back cover. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals from 5 to 60, and delicate gold hands. The timepiece is housed in a round three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with an engine turned guilloché back cover intricately engraved with an outer border of floral bouquets and scrollwork surrounding a central vacant shield cartouche, a fluted caseband, a sturdy round suspension bow, and a solid 18 carat gold inner protective cuvette.
