Gold open faced key wound cylinder watch
–
A fine Swiss 14 carat yellow gold and enamel open faced ladies’ pocket watch from the mid 19th century. It has a mechanical key wound manual movement with a cylinder escapement. The silvered dial features a finely engraved guilloché centre framed by black Roman numerals for the hours, a minute track, and gold toned hands.
–
The timepiece is housed in a richly decorated three body open faced case, with a heavily chased floral and foliate border on the bezel, highlighted by an intricate black enamel scrollwork frame. The pendant stem and round suspension bow are similarly chased with foliate accents and decorated with black and white enamel details. The solid gold back cover displays a radiating fan shaped decorative pattern filled with vibrant, multicoloured champlevé enamelling in blue, black, and white. It is further accentuated by small inset gemstones and centred by a prominent turquoise cabochon rosette.
