Gold open faced key wound repeating watch
–
A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch with jacquemart automata, mid 19th century. This watch has a mechanical key wound movement with a gilded full plate caliber, two hammers striking gongs, and a beautifully openworked and pierced balance cock chased with ornate scrollwork. The skeletonised dial centres a small white enamel dial with black Breguet numerals for the hours, an outer minute track, and dark steel hands. The dial plate features two finely chased moving automaton figures, a man and a woman in classical attire, positioned on either side and striking a bell to mark the hours and quarters.
–
The timepiece is housed in a substantial three body, 18 carat solid rose gold open faced case with a polished bezel, a fluted case middle, a smooth hinged reverse cover with a dedicated keyhole, an inner metal cuvette, a prominent round pendant with an integrated repeating button, and a sturdy round suspension bow. The watch is accompanied by its original fitted wooden presentation box and one winding key.
