Gold decorative open faced cylinder watch

A highly unusual Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel and half pearl set open faced center seconds cylinder pocket watch with lunar calendar, spherical day and night display and a visible balance wheel made in the 1800s. Full plate movement, chain and fusee, one barrel and a cylinder escapement. The white enamel regulator dial with a finely painted polychrome enamel scene in the upper half showing two fishermen on an alpine lake with trees and a historic building, above, placed slightly next to the central axis, a ball rotates for the display of day and night, an opening with a visible balance wheel at 3 o’clock, the arms set with gemstones, radial time indication in the lower half with Roman hours, outer minute dots, Arabic quarter hour numerals and decorative hands, the subdial for displaying the age of the moon is located slightly upwards at 9 o’clock. The glazed case back shows an oval medallion with a very fine polychrome enamel miniature painting against a translucent cobalt blue enamelled guilloché background depicting a lady sitting at a desk with a veil on her head, she is wearing gloves and holding a letter while her gaze is directed towards the viewer, the scene is framed by an oval halo made of half pearls and gold filigree, the band is decorated with colourful flowers made of champlevé enamel and half pearls arranged in pairs on a translucent blue enamel ground, the front bezel is also set with half pearls. Case numbered.
