Varicoloured gold, enamel and pearl-set repeater by Bordier

A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat varicoloured gold, enamel and pearl-set open faced quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1790. Hinged, frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock pierced with the name Bordier, polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions with fifteen-minute Arabic numerals and original elaborate gold hands set with seed pearls. Louis XVI case, the back with painted on enamel scene of two country lovers by a fountain against an opalescent guilloché enamel sky, shield-shaped frame, translucent imperial blue enamel border with gold paillon flower decoration, varicoloured gold band and the border with leaf decoration, bezel set with split-pearls. Dial and movement signed.
