A fine and rare French 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating musical pocket watch, circa 1820. Gilt-brass two-train movement attributed to Piguet & Meylan, Ø 51 mm, a standing barrel for the going train, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm balance, flat balance spring, polished steel endplate, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. A sur plateau musical movement, 23 tuned, blued steel vibrating blades acting on both sides of the pinned disc, music/silence lever at the edge of the cuvette beneath the back cover, the music playing on the hour or at will. Hinged gilt-brass cuvette with apertures for winding and hand-setting. Gold dial with Roman hours on a brushed chapter ring, an outer minute track, the centre engine-turned and blued steel Breguet hands. An engine-turned case with polished borders, the back with a small central engraved Maltese cross beneath a crown, reeded band, a bolt at 1 o’clock to lock the repeat. Case numbered, cuvette signed.
