Silver gilt, enamel and pearl set centre seconds Jacot duplex by Dimier

A fine and large Swiss silver-gilt, enamel and pearl set open faced centre seconds pocket watch with Jacot duplex escapement and fancy balance made for the Chinese market, circa 1850. Mirror polished steel movement, Chinese caliber, free standing barrel, Jacot duplex escapement, three armed balance with fancy pierced edge set with red glass cabochons, flat balance spring, index regulator. Gilt rimmed glazed cuvette. White enamel dial with large narrow Roman numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions, original blued steel ovoid hands. Empire case, spring loaded back finely painted on enamel with a flower bouquet, lilac ground, pearl set bezels, pendant and bow. Movement signed.

Dimier Frères & Cie is recorded as being active around 1835 in the rue Croix d’Or 27, they exported small watches in gilt-brass, or gold and enamel, cases, often with a pearl set floral decor. They are further recorded at Quai des Bergues, 31 in 1857 and Quai des Etuves, 31, in 1860.
