An rare English 18 carat gold half hunting cased minute repeating pocket chronometer, circa 1896. Gilt finished 3/4 plate movement, detent escapement, some jewels carried in screwed gold chatons, bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws, minute repeating on two gongs activated by a slide in the band. Gold cuvette. White enamel dial, Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Polished case, the front lid with aperture surrounded by a chapter ring with Roman numerals. Dial and movement signed, case stamped with maker’s mark ‘EN’ (Emil Nielsen) and London date letter for 1896.
