Half hunting cased complicated watch by A. Samuel & Son

A highly unusual and rare English 18 carat gold half hunting cased minute repeating grande and petite sonnerie perpetual calendar keyless lever clock watch with moon phases, circa 1900. Made for the Turkish market. Gilt finished 3/4 plate lever movement, some jewels carried in screwed gold chatons, minute repeating and en passant grande and petite sonnerie striking on two polished steel hammers on two gongs. Gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, four subsidiary dials indicating Arabic month combined with leap year indicator, Arabic day display, date and phases of the moon combined with constant seconds. Massive engine turned case with inlaid black enamel Roman numerals to the aperture in the front, the back centered by an engraved shield shaped cartouche, two levers for strike/silent, quarters/hours sonnerie underneath the bezel, repeating slide in the band. Case and cuvette numbered, stamped ‘EN’ (Emile Nicole) and with London date letter for 1900, pendant stamped ‘GJ’, dial and movement signed.
