Cartier was founded in 1847 in France by Louis Francois Cartier, Rue Montorgueil 31, Paris.

Cartier started working together with Edmond Jaeger, from Jaeger LeCoultre, in 1907, primarily to supply Cartier with LeCoultre movements from a partnership called European Watch and Clock Co Inc. Some of these movements were signed by European Watch & Clock Co. Inc. Swiss, several Cartier and others were signed by both. This partnership allowed Cartier to use LeCoultre movements exclusively.
