Pocket watch with enamel painting and rare diamond setting
–
An exceptional high quality and rare lady’s pair case verge watch with enamel painting and extremely rare diamond setting, made by Jean Louis Patron, probably commissioned work for the Arabian market, in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1760. The pair cased open faced case is crafted from 18 Carat gold and it has a unique decoration, is engine turned, and has Arabic letters on the back, an extraordinary and very high quality gemstone decoration, its front and back are set with rich diamonds, the pendant is set with an emerald and the back with an oval enamel painting depicting the portrait of a lady. The white enamel dial has an outer ring with Arabic numerals for the minutes and Roman numerals for the hours and black lacquered hands (lacquering probably done later). The movement has a miniature verge escapement with very beautiful pillars and a cock decorated with a portrait of a gentleman.
Dial and movement signed, case and movement with matching numbers.

The particularly high quality design of the watch indicates that this watch was commissioned by a wealthy Arabian customer. Only very rarely does the gemstone setting of these watches consist of real diamonds and emeralds.
