Exceptional and rare Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel, gemstone and diamond-set pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1760. Miniature verge movement with very beautiful pillars, cock decorated with a portrait of a gentleman. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, probably later black-lacquered hands. Engine-turned outer case with unique decoration, Arabic letters on the back, extraordinary and very high-quality gemstone decoration, the front and back with rare rich diamonds setting, pendant set with an emerald, the back with an oval enamel painted portrait of a lady, plain inner case, maker’s mark JA. Dial and movement signed, case and movement with matching numbers.

The particularly high-quality design of the watch indicates that this watch was commissioned by a wealthy Arabian customer. Only very rarely does the gemstone setting of these watches consist of real diamonds and emeralds.
