Gold and enamel open faced pocket watch

Swiss gold and enamel open faced Bagnolet pocket watch, circa 1850. The watch features a gilded cylinder movement with a female winding square and 6 jewels. This calibre Bagnolet has beautiful and rare engraved decorations. It has a silvered dial with Roman numerals, a centre engraved with a floral design, and Breguet style hands. The 18 carat gold case is adorned with a polychrome enamel scene on the back, depicting two female figures surrounded by engraved decoration accented with blue and white enamel. It includes a winding key on a chain, and the movement is numbered.

The movement is operational. The dial is heavily tarnished, missing numerals, with bent hands and no glass. The case has scratches on the enamel, scuffs throughout, and the bezel does not close properly.
