Gold and enamel dress watch from aristocratic property

An extremely rare ‘Couteau Ultra Thin’ gold and enamel dress watch from aristocratic property made by Cartier in Paris, France, circa 1920. The exceptionally flat, numbered case of this watch is crafted from 18 carat gold and features a back lid finished in blue engine turned enamel with a white border and a platinum “GB” monogram set with diamonds in the center. The silvered engine turned dial features an outer minutes track, Arabic hour numerals and Breguet steel hands. The extremely flat precision movement is fitted with a lever escapement.
The dial and movement are signed.

The item presented here comes in a later Cartier original box from an aristocratic family, but has the owner’s monogram with diamond setting instead of the aristocratic crown.
