An outstanding quality open faced pocket watch made for the Chinese market by Vaucher in Paris, France, circa 1790. The case of this watch, which was crafted from 18 carat gold, is glazed on both sides. It has translucent blue and opaque white enamel decoration, typical for the Chinese market, a hidden hinge and a magnificent enamel painting on the back. The white enamel dial features Roman hour markers, outer minute divisions, Arabic quarter hour numerals and fine gold hands. The movement is fitted with a verge escapement.
