Gold lady’s pendant watch with eccentric dial

A very fine and very rare French, small 20K gold lady’s pendant watch with ruby cylinder escapement, circa 1820. Eccentric dial, short gold chain and gold Breguet key, in Breguet, fitted Morocco box. Sold to Count Malicheff for 1320 Francs. An engine-turned back, reeded bezels and band. Gold detachable cuvette with apertures for the winding and regulation. Double-link chain.

Silver dial, champlevé radial Roman numerals on a brushed chapter ring, outer dot minute divisions, engine-turned centre and lower border. Gold Breguet hands. A gilt brass movement, standing barrel, ruby cylinder escapement, gold three-arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, 8-tooth escape wheelset in an unusual way under the dial, jewelled balance with a parachute on the top pivot, blued steel regulation arc. Dial and cuvette signed a case with Tavernier’s punched mark. Property of a Swiss Gentleman.

Count Malicheff bought at least four watches from Breguet in 1820 and in 1821, all small watches like this one. One of them was delivered through Prince Nicolas Troubetzkoi, who was aide-de-camp of Tsar Alexander I and his chief intelligence officer.
