Rose gold coach watch by François-Louis Godon
–
A highly unusual French gold coach watch with a full calendar and the age and phase of the moon, circa 1789-1790. This heavy watch features a gilded full plate movement with a verge escapement, flat three-arm balance, decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge, fusee and chain, cylindrical pillars, silver regulation plate, gilt metal dust cap, movement, and dust cap signed F. L. Godon, Ro. de Camara de S.M.C. (watchmaker to the Catholic King of Spain), further signed Godon around the perimeter of movement amongst chased and engraved geometric decoration. The dial is white enamel with Arabic numerals, an inner minute ring with Arabic 5-minute divisions, three subsidiary dials for date, day, and month, an aperture for moon age and phase with a blue enamelled disc, blued steel hands with heart-form terminals, signed F. L. Godon, Ro. de Camara de S.M.C. The case is polished pink gold with scooped bezels and a hidden hinge.

The movement is running on time, with a few light scratches on the backplate and some scratching around the securing pins for the movement pillars. The dial has very small and faint hairlines just to the right of 6 o’clock but is otherwise in good condition with a few light scratches. The case has light polishing and small marks and scratches, with the case maker’s mark on the inside case back slightly rubbed towards the lower half but possibly showing AK beneath a crescent moon.
