A French very fine and decorative gold enamel lady’s pendant watch with corresponding diamond-set brooch, circa 1870.
18 carat gold case, entirely enamelled in high relief with a bird in a half pearl-set nest surrounded by flower foliage. Numbered and signed gold dome with case maker’s punch mark “AP”. Corresponding brooch, length 86 mm. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours and gold Louis XV hands. Frosted gilt bridge movement with wolfteeth winding wheels, cylinder escapement and three-arm brass balance.

Charles Oudin (1772-1825)
Oudin was a pupil of Abraham-Louis Breguet and one of his best masters. Oudin started his own business in Paris and was appointed watchmaker to the Russian tsar; he became famous for designing a keyless wind. His son Charles continued the business after his father’s death.
