A French 18K gold open faced cylinder gentleman’s pocket watch with oscillating weight winding mechanism, circa 1790. Polished case, maker’s mark I&PI, large lateral hinge. White enamel dial with central polychrome painted gallant scene of a bird catcher, eccentric white enamel hour dial with Roman numerals and Arabic five minutes, centre seconds, regulator scale at 12 o’clock, gold poker & beetle hands. Frosted gilt oscillating weight wind movement, ebauche by Moyse Gevril Fils, Le Locle, oscillating weight with engraved border and motto Le Temps Passe San Retour, solid movement pillars, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, blued balance spring, signed.
