A French 18 carat gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1790. Fire gilt full plate verge movement, pierced and engraved balance bridge, silver regulation disc with copper indicator.
White enamel dial with Arabic numerals and outer minute track.
The case back with en grisaille enamel scene depicting a woman in the garden, border with applied decoration, both bezels chased and engraved.
Movement and dial signed.

André Hessen worked as clockmaker to the king’s brother in Paris from 1775 to 1790. He later went to Stockholm. Today, many of his creations are kept in Paris and Stockholm. Hessen also published the paper “Mém. sur l’Horlogerie”.
