Open faced lady’s repeating verge watch by DeNoyelle
–
A French lady’s gold, enamel and pearl set verge quarter repeating à toc watch, circa 1790. The watch features a gilded full plate movement, signed De Noyelle à Paris, with a verge escapement, plain three arm balance, and a decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge with a polished steel endpiece. It includes a silver regulation plate, fusee and chain, turned pillars, and two polished steel hammers repeating on blocks mounted to the inside of the band. The white enamel dial, signed De Noyelle à Paris, showcases Roman numerals and an inner minute ring, with an aperture for winding at 2 o’clock. The gold case has a back adorned with translucent blue guilloché enamel, while both the front and back feature split pearl set bezels. The case is numbered and stamped S (or g) beneath a crown with an additional indistinct mark.

The movement is neither running nor repeating. It appears fully wound. The movement hinge is broken, causing the movement to be loose in the case at this time. The dial has a few small but relatively deep scratches. The case enamel on the back shows light scratches, and the panel is slightly loose. There are 3 or 4 pearls on the front bezel that are cracked and damaged, along with another 3 or 4 on the back that are also cracked.
